Literature Text

There once was a girl named Innocence.
Her eyes were blue and her hair was spun gold
She grew up so slowly, she never got old
She'd never known pain, or sorrow or cold

Until she met an old sly fox
Quick and cunning minded
Wilderness was his name
And hunting was his game

Innocence was frolicking
In the fairy lit forest
When she spied a red fox
Slinking through the wooded glade

His eyes were acid yellow
And his fangs were wicked sharp
But his smiling was charming
Alarmingly sweet like rotting apples

Innocence did not understand danger
She did not know about tearing teeth
Evil had not cast a shadow across her fair face
The fox closed in, his smile like candy.

The nursemaid saw the intruder
And quick as a fox
She snatched poor Innocence away
Retreating to the safety of the family tower

Innocence survived untouched
By the realities of the dark
But she began to wonder
What was beyond her sugar glossed world
